About the Author: John Williams

John Williams (1922-1994) was an American novelist and short story writer. He is best known for his novels Butcher's Crossing (1960),Augustus (1972),and Stoner (1965),which was published posthumously and became a bestseller.

Williams was born in Clarksville, Tennessee, and served in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he attended the University of Denver and the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop. He taught creative writing at the University of Denver, the University of Washington, and the University of California, Irvine.

Williams's work is characterized by its deep psychological insights, vivid prose, and exploration of themes such as faith, nature, and the human condition. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1973 for his novel Augustus.
